Harborough FM celebrates another £250 win

Harborough FM celebrated another big win last Saturday with one supporter winning £250 and another winning £25. This was their third supporter to win £250 and 48th winning £25.

We caught up with Chris Jones who is the Director / Program Controller / Fundraiser (they all wear many hats) at Harborough FM.

Tell us a bit about your cause and the work you carry out within the community:

Harborough FM have been operating full time since February 2007. We aim to provide our local area with entertaining and informative content. We get a lot of correspondence indicating that our service has become invaluable to the community - not only because of the musical entertainment and local news, but because many listeners see us as friends. During the pandemic, we played a vital role providing information on support services and also many have reported that the service helped in reducing loneliness and isolation. 

How did you hear about the lottery and what made you decide to join?

We joined the lottery when it was launched.

Is there a particular project or service you are hoping to raise funds for?

Running costs to keep our service running are very high indeed. The money raised from the lottery contributes each month to meeting these costs.

How has joining the lottery benefited your cause?

We rely on fundraising to raise much of our ongoing costs. Without opportunities to raise funds like this, we would not be able to survive. During the pandemic lockdowns, we lost virtually all of our outside events and fundraising oportunities. The income from the lotto literally helped us to survive a very lean period.

What advice would you give to other causes thinking of joining the lottery?

It's a no brainer !!! All you need to do is be prepared to promote it and encourage your supporters - and the rewards can be very useful indeed.
